As they do every year, Ballshooter Games has released a freeware Halloween edition of their Fastswapper game for Pocket PC.

Here is one for all the hockey loving Canadians. PDA Hockey Stats allows you to keep track of all the goings on in the NHL on your PDA.
"PDA Hockey Stats is a free reference database for DEPReader dictionary and reference program that includes information on more than 2,900 players and 30 teams from the National Hockey League since 1976. Players' profiles include personal information and career statistics by years."

GPS Passion has posted some new photo's of the next version of Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system, codenamed as Crossbow.
These photo's are of the Smartphone version of Crossbow, and of particular interest to users is the presence of icons for Word, Excel, and Powerpoint, which are not part of the Smartphone version of the Windows Mobile operating system today.

Skype announced on Thursday that the Pocket Pc version of it's software has now reached 5 million users since its introduction in April of 2004.
"The software's speedy widespread adoption might have to do with the fact that its latest version, Skype for Pocket PC 2.1 is currently supported by more than 60 devices from 20 different manufacturers. The software allows users to take Skype service mobile, including free SkypeOut calling for users in the U.S. and Canada to landlines and other mobile phones in North America until the end of the year."
I often use Skype for Pocket PC when traveling overseas, as all you need is a wi-fi connection and it turns my Pocket PC into a temporary cellphone. Also, you can't beat the price. Click the link below to read the full article.

Mobilemag is reporting the details of the US launch of the new HP iPAQ hw6920 Mobile Messenger.
"Cingular will be the first U.S. carrier to offer the HP iPAQ hw6920 Mobile Messenger, bursting with five wireless technologies: GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Wi-Fi, GPS, infrared and Bluetooth. You can pretty much stay connected anywhere you choose, and any way you like it."
The device is set to launch on October 31st, and Cingular business customers will be able to pick one up for $359.99 with a 2-year contract.

Microsoft aims to double the number of mobile phones running its Windows software this year from 6 million at the end of 2005 and to keep up this rate of growth in coming years, a Microsoft executive said.
"The number of devices operating on Windows Mobile doubled to 6 million last year," Peter Knook, head of Microsoft's Mobile and Embedded Devices division, told Germany's Euro am Sonntag in an interview published on Sunday.

CNET has taken a look at the much anticipated T-Mobile Dash (aka HTC Excaliber). They are very impressed not only with the functionality, but the overall look of the device.
"The T-Mobile Dash has a sleek design with a vibrant color screen and features integrated Bluetooth 2.0 and Wi-Fi; push e-mail capabilities; multimedia functions; and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The quadband smart phone also has good call quality and extra long talk time battery life."

According to numerous reports, there will be a second version of the popular Moto Q Smartphone that will be released, to be known as the Moto Q Pro.
"Earlier this week at Gartner Symposium ITxpo, Motorola announced the upcoming release of the Motorola Q Pro, an upgrade to their Windows Mobile Smartphone. Along with upgraded hardware, and having a black case, this sweet little number totes Motorola's MOTOPRO Mobility Suite, a software package installed on your back end that allows you to do remote device management, application management, and disabling of the camera unit"

Spectec has released the world's first micro SD card designed to add Wi-Fi via the micro SDIO slot on your device. This is a little surprising, in that on top of the fact they are able to add Wi-Fi in such a small card footprint, they are doing so in the 802.11g format. This means not only can you use it to add wi-fi to your device, you may also want to use it to speed up the wi-fi on your device if it is the more traditional 802.11b.

Microsoft has released new social networking software called Slam, and it is aimed at the market for Windows Mobile powered smartphones.
"Built for Windows Mobile, the concept of "slam" is a group of people that you exchange messages and photos with. Whenever there's a new message or photo for the group, the phone users will get a notification on their screen (some by data, some by SMS) that there's new content waiting for them."

AudioPod is a new program designed to allow you to download podcasts to your Pocket PC device. The software will download your selected podcasts while connected to the internet, and then provide you with the ability to listen to the podcast while offline.

SlingPlayer has released another update to their SlingPlayer Mobile software, designed to allow you to watch content streamed from your Slingbox on your Windows Mobile device.
"What's new? There are mostly features that support the newest Slingboxes, such as a wide screen menu option, and the software now shows the correct number of inputs for those latest iterations from Sling Media. There are also a few interface tweaks, and optimization time is sped up when you change from portrait to full screen mode."

A foreign website by the name of solopalmari.com has recieved some pics from an anonymous tipster of the new HTC Herald.
" According to hands-on action going on over at SoloPalmari, they're measuring 18mm of thickness, but minor quibbles aside, the phone does seem to be in possession of a 2 megapixel camera, 2.8-inch QVGA screen, miniSD slot, 64MB of RAM, 128MB of ROM and of course that lovable QWERTY keyboard in a notably thin form factor."

Teksoft has released Blue Music, a software program designed to stream stereo audio via bluetooth, as well as the microphone input.
"By operating at hardware level, this software is capable of controlling the voice routing. Not only the speaker sound is routed, but also the microphone input. Now you can use your Bluetooth Headset together with Voice Over IP (VoIP) software installed on your device."
