Hot on the heels of the official announcement of the demise of Dell's Axim line of Pocket PC's, a new rumor has surfaced that could bring some clarity to the situation.

"Take this one with a grain of salt, but there is a distinct possibly that Dell wants to purchase Palm so that they can bring a smartphone to the cellular market. This follows the recent news of Dell killing off their Axim PDA line, possibly moving away from standalone PDAs and into smartphones that combine the functionality of a personal organizer with the calling features of a cell phone."

While this is not the first iPhone skin to show up for the Pocket PC, it may be the one that has lasted the longest. Actually its not even a new skin, it's just a lawyer in Poland who does not want to let the bully tactics of the Apple lawyers stop people from downloading the program!

"Let me present a very short memo on why I decided to do that. First at all, I would like to inform all of you that I am an IP lawyer interested in copyright/authors rights and I really appreciate the fact that such regulations are used to reward creative people for their efforts and actions which are designed to improve our society."

He makes a pretty compelling argument on why he thinks that the program is not even breaking any copyright laws. You can find more information, as well as download the skin from his blog, which you can reach by clicking the link below.

What has been long rumored, is now apparently officially true. There is no future for Dell's Axim line of Windows Mobile devices.

"A Dell spokeswoman said: "The Axim X51 family is no longer being offered, and we have no plans for a follow-on product at this time." She noted the company does sell handhelds from other makers on its website, including GPS devices and smart phones."

This is bad news for a lot of people, as unlike some of the other Dell products that have been scrapped (notably, the mp3 player called the DJ Diddy), the Axim was actually a pretty good device. You can read the full story from Silicon.com by clicking the link below.
